Update .... I ended up joining here after checking out other local gyms .
I was told 'we close in 15 minutes it's too late'
I travel a ton for business and have visited Y's all over the country...none can compare to our facility here in Valpo. We are pretty spoiled. Only suggestion would be to avoid closing for nearly 10 days per year for cleaning...seems like that could be done in shifts.
We entertained 80+ people for a rehearsal lunch. Ruth and Jeanie were very helpful and a joy to work with. The pavilion and kitchen was clean. They let us use the frig and freezer. It was great!
The facility is nice, could be a little bigger. The pool definately needs to be longer and wider, its not a hotel pool! Ive enjoyed myself for the most part when I go there, but it does have an exclusive club feel to it. Also, the fees are pretty high.
Don't go to sign up 20 minutes before they close .
If I do end up joining I will reevaluate my raiting .
Since my interaction with the rude staff member from above ( who I have not seen since) , I have only had positive interactions with all the other staff. I'm very happy that I joined here and am very happy with all they have to offer that I've had the chance to take advantage of so far .
The staff is pleasant, however, and it’s usually always clean.
Its my fault I couldn't sign up when I stopped in. I should have called to confirm what time I would need to get there by. But the snotty attitude I got now has me questioning if I even want to go back and sign up.
The Y is so so so small. More often than not, when I go, there are no machines available. Even the floor space in the middle is usually packed. Today I went there and had to turn around and go home because nothing was available. For serving such a large community, you’d think the space would be bigger. The cost is also outrageous for how small the facility is. I go to Purdue University and our facility is one of the biggest in the nation and only charges students $60 for the whole summer. Here, for a facility about a quarter of the size, its $50 some dollars for ONE MONTH! Outrageous cost.
